party recap

I decided to host a styled wedding photo shoot for the Eagles Aerie 555 in Akron, Ohio. My friend is the current President of the Ladies Auxiliary Group for the Aerie. The group was planning the 96th Anniversary of their organization, and asked me to assist with planning their event. We decided to hold the photo shoot the day before the Anniversary Party. That way we could use the same decor, and showcase the talents of the vendors involved in both the photo shoot and the party.
We decided on a 1920’s, Great Gatsby inspired theme for the photo shoot, with a classic color palate of black, gold, and white. There was a great mix of modern and vintage elements, especially in the fashions and accessories. Our fabulous models were Lauren Simpson, Chula DeJesus, and Brynn Eiffert.

party highlights

  • WHAT PEOPLE ATE We had a fabulous three-tiered Art Deco styled cake, in shades of gold, black and white. White feather plumes and a custom cake topper completed the decadent look. We also had custom designed sugar cookies that captured the feeling of a Roaring 20’s party.
  • WHAT PEOPLE DRANK In the 1920’s, Prohibition was in full effect around the USA. For our styled photo shoot, we created a drink menu that included champagne, Gin Rickey, Old Fashioned, and the Sidecar. The Eagles Aerie 555 in Akron, Ohio, offers a full bar for private events.
  • DESSERTS We had a fabulous three-tiered Art Deco styled cake, in shades of gold, black and white. White feather plumes and a custom cake topper completed the decadent look. We also had custom designed sugar cookies that captured the feeling of a Roaring 20’s party.
  • ACTIVITIES / GAMES After-hours clubs were very popular during the 1920’s, and many were very glamorous. We were inspired by such movies as “The Great Gatsby” and “Harlem Nights”. We had games of chance set out including blackjack, poker, a money wheel, and several decks of cards for those that did not wish to “gamble”.

Our Bridgerton inspired styled wedding photo shoot is featured on the Plans and Presents blog!

Hello, Bridgerton Fans!! Like many of you, I have been OBSESSED with this show since it first aired on Netflix. Season one, with the characters of Daphne and Simon, completely enthralled me! I enjoyed the show so much, and rewatched it several times, that I was inspired to create my own interpretation of the show, in a gorgeous styled wedding photo shoot. We had a large cast of enthusiastic characters, and amazing vendors that brought this vision to life. Thank you to Alison Tinlin, of the Plans and Presents blog, for featuring this amazing collaboration! Enjoy!!

https://www.mrspandp.com/styled-shoots/a-beautiful-regency-inspired-wedding-shoot-channelling-bridgerton-and-pretty-blue-details/

Today I am thrilled to share a beautiful Regency inspired wedding shoot channelling Bridgerton and pretty blue details.

Images were captured by MP Photography with planning by Love, Laughter & Elegance: Wedding & Event Planning, and the collaboration of a fabulous collaborative team.

Kimberly of Love, Laughter & Elegance: Wedding & Event Planning says of the shoot…

Is there anyone who has not yet seen the Bridgerton series on Netflix?

I absolutely love this television series, based on the romance novels by Julia Quinn, and Shonda Rhimes and her production team have created an amazing show based on the books.

As we delve into the second series streaming now, we celebrate the magic of the first season, with the storyline featuring the romance of debutante Daphne Bridgerton, and Simon Basset, the Duke of Hastings.

It is an enchanting and gorgeous modern interpretation of the Regency Era in England, during the social Season.

I wanted to capture the essence of the aristocratic members of the Haute Ton, and the romance of Daphne and Simon.

We had the perfect setting at The Tudor House on the Portage Lakes, in New Franklin, Ohio.

Once a private residence, this venue is now used for social events and weddings, and it had the beautiful scenery and timeless interior design provided a memorable setting for our styled wedding photo shoot.

Incorporating a soft colour scheme of blues and greys, we worked with amazing vendors to create a tribute to this iconic romance.

I’ve been a fan of Regency Era Romances for many years, and so this provided the inspiration.

The glamour and elegance of the age provides the perfect setting for love stories among the members of polite society.

There were specific rules and events for those seeking to marry, and heaven help you if you were caught in a scandalous situation.

The Tudor House was the perfect setting for our styled wedding shoot.

We made use of several rooms like the formal dining room, breakfast room, the formal parlour that featured lots of beautiful woodwork and large windows and fireplace, and the lush grounds around the estate.

In the series, the Bridgerton family members are often dressed in a soft colour palette of blues, greys, lavenders and pinks.

I wanted carry that theme through our shoot in some of the wardrobe pieces.

As there was an ensemble cast for this styled shoot, we kept the wardrobe as authentic to the Regency Era as possible.

For Daphne’s wedding gown, she wore a vintage Empire waisted, white satin gown, with chiffon overlay skirt, and lace detail. Her look was accented by a soft blue paisley satin shawl with fringe.

Her hair was swept up, and accented by a lovely pearl and diamond tiara.

Her handsome Duke, Simon, wore a classic black suit, with white shirt, dark cravat tie, and silver waist coat.

His tie was accented by a gold pin with emerald stone, very similar to the one worn by the Duke of Hastings in the first season of the series.

For Daphne’s second look, her “going away” outfit, we put her in an Empire waisted, cream coloured gown with delicate blue floral embroidery and blue velvet ribbon trim.

Her pelisse was a lovely blue shade to match her gown. We added long gloves, and a matching reticule and parasol shade to complete her look.

As our Viscount Anthony Bridgerton, Elliott made a dashing impression.

He wore a striking ensemble of grey slacks, dark blue dress jacket and matching vest, white shirt and red cravat tie.

His love interest, opera singer Siena Rosso, played by Charli, looked ethereally lovely in a long blush pink.

Grecian style chiffon gown with matching shawl. Her dark curls were swept off of her face by a matching chiffon scarf.

Sarah, our lovely titan-haired aristocrat, glowed in an emerald green satin gown, with elegant black trim, and black pashmina shawl.

Her accessories included an emerald tiara and earrings.

Her gentleman, Gerry, was very dapper in black pants, white shirt, burgundy and silver vest with chain detail, and a silver cravat.

The lovely Cait, who may or may not have been impersonating Lady Whistledown during our styled shoot, was radiant in a gold satin gown, trimmed with ruby red ribbons and roses.

Her curly brunette locks were accented by a pearl trimmed band.

She also wore a matching yellow lace shawl, red slippers, and a beautiful cameo pendant on a red satin ribbon.

Sammy looked timelessly elegant in silver slipper satin gown trimmed with royal blue lace appliques and satin ribbon sash.

She wore a matching silver shawl, and a delicate silver tiara to complete her look.

Her gentleman, Cyrus, was looking every inch the nobleman in his outfit.

He wore grey pants, tall black leather riding boots, a white shirt, navy blue cravat tie, and dark red double-breasted coat.

All of the accessories such as gloves, jewelry, and tiaras, were from personal collections.

We had a very stylish group in attendance for the wedding of Daphne and Simon, the Duke and Duchess of Hastings, indeed!

We wanted to match the beautiful florals with our soft colour scheme, and the feel of being freshly gathered from the garden, and these were created by Dietz Floral Studio.

Daphne’s bridal bouquet was comprised of the same flowers as the table arrangements, with the addition of white lisianthus.

Definitely a romantic look for our Duchess of Hastings.

One of the most central pieces to the Bridgerton series is the printed gossip column, written by the mysterious Lady Whistledown. Of course, we had to include a copy of the scandal sheet in our styled shoot!

The invitation suite, personal vow books, and dinner party menu were all created by Michelle Mospens Studio.

Michelle had also hand-painted several designs of blue and white ginger jars on canvases, that fit so well with our table linens.

As Daphne’s character plays the pianoforte in the series, we added a small antique piano music box to our details.

The reticules were created by Laurie Wallick of Lorili Design, especially for this styled shoot.

We had two very distinct tables for our tribute to Bridgerton.

I also wanted to carry that theme through our shoot in the linens for the tablescapes, and some of the décor and detail items.

We set up the cake table in the morning room, or breakfast parlour, of the Tudor House.

There are several large windows, allowing lots of natural light and an amazing view of the lake just beyond the grounds of the estate.

This vintage garden table was covered with a silver grey linen, and two table runners, with a royal blue flocked velvet pattern, were crossed on top.

The  stunning cake by Sarah’s Sugar Cookies was placed in the middle of the table, and surrounded by linen napkins in silver grey and royal blue.

The silver laser cut names of Daphne and Simon were added to the table, along with a pair of antique cut crystal toasting flutes.

Our formal dining table was dressed to impress for the guests of Simon and Daphne.

The table and chairs were draped in silver grey linens. A square overlay with a royal blue flocked velvet design was placed diagonally across the table.

The chairs were tied with matching royal blue flocked velvet sashes.

The place settings were very elegant, with silver grey napkins placed under the fine white china that was banded with a silver Greek Key design.

On top of each place setting, we placed a small silver container with a clear dome cover, with mints inside.

Custom laser cut place cards by Chrissy Lane Designs, with the name of each guest, were added in front of each mint container.

The glassware included the traditional coffee cup and saucer, a smoky wine glass, and a clear champagne flute with a royal blue band.

A pair of black metal scroll work candelabras flanked the centerpiece, illuminating the table with long creamy taper candles.

The floral centerpiece was lush and full in a large silver patterned bowl, with garden blooms such as white lilacs, garden roses, ranunculus and Queen Anne’s lace, blue thistle, delphinium and tweedia in shades of blue and white, to complete the grand design of the table.

This was all perfect setting for a sweet beginning to marriage for the Duke and Duchess of Hastings.

Our 1950’s Inspired Styled Shoot is featured on the Plans and Presents Blog!!

We have been blessed to have our 1950’s Inspired styled wedding photo shoot featured on the Plans and Presents Wedding Blog! I love the 1950s era! It was a time of elegance, style and grace. Life was a bit simpler, and the world seemed fresh and new again. I wanted to capture some of the essence of that era in this styled shoot. Enjoy!

A vibrant and colourful 50s theme wedding shoot with polka dot, cherry and bluebird details

AUGUST 17, 2021 STYLED SHOOTS

Today I am thrilled to share a vibrant and colourful 50s theme wedding shoot with polka dot, cherry and bluebird details.

Images were captured by Spurrell Photography with co-ordination and styling by Kimberly Lehman of Love, Laughter & Elegance: Wedding & Event Planning, and the collaboration of a fabulous creative team.

Kimberly says of the shoot…

I’m obsessed with all things vintage, especially the 1950’s era.

I love the music, red lipstick, fluffy skirts and gloves on ladies, and classic clean-cut looks on the gentlemen.

It was a simpler time, full of glamour and style so I was thrilled to be asked to design a styled wedding photo shoot for Arrowhead Golf and Event Centre in North Canton, Ohio, to showcase their venue.

This retro-inspired theme immediately came to mind, full of bright colours and fun.

The main colours used were cherry red and aqua blue, with a touch of baby pink and white to accent.

We added polka dots, cherries and blue birds into the design scheme for a few fun touches, also incorporating vintage clothing and accessories, rocking it out!

To give an insight into the day the stationery suite was created by Bellus Designs especially for this event, mirroring the bright colors and fun polka dots in our table settings.

There was also a subtle theme of cherries, hearts, and bluebirds of happiness running through our accessories and decor items. Overall, the vibe was very happy and dreamy, as a wedding day should be.

We showcased several different looks in attire for this styled shoot.

Our handsome male model, Kyle, wore a off white tuxedo jacket, white button down shirt, and slim-fitting black trousers, accenting his classic 1950’s look with dark dress socks with a cherry design.

Kyle wore two different ties, the first being a classic cream bow tie with cherries printed on it, and the second being a long red and white striped satin tie.

He also wore two different pocket squares in his jacket, the first an aqua blue plaid with birds printed on the one corner, and the second being a dark red with a yellow paisley design. Kyle also wore vintage cuff links to complete his stylish ensemble. Very dashing.

Our gorgeous bridesmaid model, Sarah, wore two very lovely and elegant outfits for our shoot.

The first ensemble was a vintage dusty blue satin bridesmaid gown, with an aqua blue petticoat underneath, with a large matching hair bow placed in her long curly locks.

We completed her look with glittery gold heels, jewellery with blue accents, vintage formal gloves, and a vintage pearl beaded clutch purse.

Sarah’s second look was very flirty and fun. She wore a black, full-skirted halter dress with a white sash and white polka dots.

To fill out her skirt, we added a flirty red petticoat, red Mary Jane heels, and a fun red fascinator that set off her curls and beautiful face.

Our stunning Bridal model, Sammy Kay had several vintage looks.

The first outfit was a vintage tea-length ivory satin dress from English Rose Vintage Oh, with an asymmetrical neckline, pleated waist, and full skirt.

We added a custom ivory satin sash, with a large bow and rolled satin roses. We wanted to give her a pop of colour with her dress, so we added the red petticoat underneath.

The underskirt peeked out below the hem at different times during the shoot, and looked amazing.

Her jewellery from Papparazzi Accessories included a red glass beaded bracelet with cherry charm, cherry earrings, and a red pendant necklace and her rings were a vintage wedding set belonging to my grandmother.

To complete her fun wedding day look, we added a romantic red lace birdcage veil by Over the Moon Bridal, red Mary Jane heels, vintage ivory lace gloves with red trim, and a vintage red leather clutch purse.

Sammy’s second look of the day was just as romantic. She wore a vintage 1940’s tea-length lace wedding dress, that was simply elegant.

For extra sparkle, we added a beaded belt from Lorili Design, a pearl bracelet, and glittery gold heels. in her hair, we placed an ivory floral fascinator that framed her dark curls perfectly.

To compliment the fashion our flowers were absolutely gorgeous, and were created by Liz Nidy Floral Design based on flowers commonly used in 1950’s weddings.

We had a large centrepiece for our dining table, a bridal bouquet, bridesmaid bouquet, two boutonnieres, and loose flowers to decorate the cake with.

Our florist Liz Nidy used roses, Malus tree blossoms, ranunculus, zinnias, a mix of greens , sprengeri fern and Italian ruscus.

Most of the flowers were a deep red, with some baby pink, white and yellow blossoms to balance the overall look, perfect for a spring wedding

Many of the decor items featured in this styled shoot are vintage items from the 1950’s, and are reflective of me wanting to create a truly authentic retro, but very fun, feel.

We created two lovely tablescapes to theme the day.

The first was our guest table, swathed in luscious aqua blue satin, and flanked by white covered chairs with matching aqua blue satin sashes.

For a pop of color, we added a bright cherry red runner with white polka dots down the middle of the table.

Our place settings were comprised of a red charger plate, ivory dinner plate with gold trim, and vintage blue patterned salad plates and saucers.

Our aqua blue satin napkins matched our table cloth and chair sashes perfectly.

In the centre of each place setting, we added an aqua tulle drawstring favour bag, covered in adorable white polka dots, and filled with classic red and white candies.

Our glassware included classic cobalt blue wine glasses, and clear water goblets.

Gold mercury votive candles were scattered along the length of the table, lending a glow alongside the creme taper candles, nestled in a pair of vintage glass candlesticks adorned with love birds.

The retro theme menu highlighted a meal that might have been served at a wedding reception in the 1950’s.

Formal escort cards were set alongside each place setting, and the table number card featured a lovely red heart and pair of bluebirds.

The gorgeous centerpiece was featured in the middle of the dining table, in a white compote bowl.

Our dessert table was just as lovely as our dining table, covered in the rich aqua blue satin tablecloth, and red runner with white polka dots.

The petite chocolate wedding cake was placed on a rise, and highlighted with a vintage wedding couple topper, and pink and white fresh flowers.

Below the cake, there was a darling handcrafted heart shaped ornament, made from a vintage cookie cutter, silk flowers and ribbon.

The handcrafted sign by Seasonal Accent at the back of the table was a beautiful reminder of love.

We placed luscious chocolate cupcakes on a vintage silver serving tray adorned with white and red lacy paper doilies.

A bottle of sparkling beverage awaited our couple, along with vintage champagne bride and groom glasses.

For those guests who did not wish to indulge in a bubbly beverage, soft drinks in vintage glass bottles were ready to be shared, with darling paper straws, printed with red chevron and vintage cherries designs.

To complete the colourful 50s wedding theme the cake was simple and elegant, just like many of the wedding cakes in the 1950’s.

It had a round chocolate layer tier, frosted in creamy chocolate buttercream with chocolate crunchy bits at the base.

It was decorated with a vintage couple cake topper, and fresh pink and white flowers and greenery.

We also added chocolate cupcakes frosted with cocoa flavoured icing, and chocolate sprinkles.

To finish off the look of the cupcakes, we placed a vintage heart shaped pick in each one. They were as yummy as they were charming!

Strawberry Fields Forever ~ A fruity 70s inspired wedding styled shoot

MAY 7, 2021 STYLED SHOOTS

Today I am excited to share Strawberry Fields Forever, a fruity 70s inspired wedding styled shoot with striking red, baby pink, and apple green details.

Images were captured by Tayana B Photography with styling by Kimberly Lehman of Love, Laughter & Elegance with the collaboration of a fabulous creative team…

Kimberly says of the shoot…

Strawberry Fields Forever is such a groovy theme for a summer wedding! Not only was it a popular song by the Beatles, it reminds us of a simpler time.

I might be a bit biased, as my parents were married in 1971 and I was born in 1973 but I love looking through wedding photos from the 1970’s, and bohemian type decor.

This era is very on-trend right now as inspiration for weddings and events so I wanted to incorporate the free spirited vibes of the decade, along with a delicious colour palette for this styled photo shoot.

I chose strawberry red, baby pink, and apple green, along with a whimsical red checkered pattern as the colours for this awesome shoot.

There was several sweet details featured in the shoot.

First, we had a live wedding painter, Studio Em Treasures, who created a beautiful custom piece of artwork of the ceremony setting.

We also had darling ribbon wands with our colors of pink, green, and white, created by Plume and Paper.

They also created the custom stationery suite for this groovy celebration of love.

Finally, we included our vintage record player, and original 45-rpm record of the Beatles’ “Strawberry Fields Forever”.

The album also made a cute setting for the wedding rings.

Our wedding couple, Dan and Fox Kaye, were a joy to work with, and to style. Dan’s personal style certainly looked like he stepped right out of the 1970’s.

He wore a classic black suit and white button down shirt, accented with a vintage 1970’s black velvet bow tie, strawberry printed dress socks, and strawberry shaped cuff links.

Fox Kaye wore a vintage 1970’s wedding gown, made of fluid crepe fabric.

The ivory gown featured a high neck and long sleeves, embellished with Battenburg lace, and a sheer teardrop shaped insert just below the neckline.

The vintage gown featured a unique Watteau train, which lay like a cape from the shoulder line in the back, and fell to a chapel train length.

To accessorise she also wore a very delicate gold necklace, with a tiny strawberry charm.

Fox Kayes hair was styled in long simple waves, with a small birdcage veil pinned at the crown.

The veil was accented by a vintage hair comb, decorated with a strawberry and small white flowers. Her complete vintage look was utterly charming.

The florals for the shoot were spectacular.

Bouquet Studio created two amazing freestanding pieces for our ceremony area, triangular in shape, with a little curve towards the top.

They just met the bottom fringes of the large macrame hanging we used as our ceremony focal point, provided by Lavender and Lace Event Rentals.

Our dining table centerpiece was lush and full, in a lovely vintage, white milk glass compote vase.

Dan’s boutonniere was comprised of a strawberry red zinnia and small pink bridal protea.

Fox Kaye’s hand-tied bouquet was a beautiful mix of dahlias, ranunculus, small bridal protea, anemones, daisies, and roses.

We added pink carnations and small white daisies to the three tiered wedding cake, to complement the theme of the shoot. In both the centerpiece and the ceremony arrangements, several types of flowers and greenery were used.

Those pieces included white O’Hara garden roses, zinnias, dahlias, scabiosa, bridal protea, anemone, pokeberry, ranunculus, stock, daisies, carnations, parvofolia eucalyptus, silver dollar eucalyptus, Italian ruscus, seeded eucalyptus, boxwood, and raspberry leaves.

This groovy shoot had two beautiful tablescapes.

Our dining table was set for six special guests. The table was covered in a floor length strawberry red linen, and the table runner was a bright white, featuring diagonal rows of contrasting trims.

The vintage chairs were an eclectic mix of styles, adorned with contrasting tied chair sashes in solid strawberry red and red gingham.

Our place settings were a gorgeous mix of vintage pink, green and clear glassware, rose gold charger plates, and vintage china with hand painted strawberries and flowers.

The vintage silverware pieces were crafted with a delicate floral pattern. For a final pop pf colour, we rolled alternating cloth napkins in baby pink, apple green, and red gingham.

The napkins were wrapped with vintage ceramic strawberry napkin rings.

The laser cut place cards were created by Plume and Paper, and were secured in darling little white ceramic holders.

They also created the unique acrylic table number. Our dining table centerpiece was lush and full, in a lovely vintage, white milk glass compote vase.

Our second display featured our yummy desserts.

On a large white vintage baking rack, we draped a vintage white tablecloth with an embroidered strawberry design.

On the first shelf, we placed our vintage beverage dispenser filled with freshly made pink lemonade, and our darling three tier wedding cake.

On the second shelf, we displayed a larger “love” sign that matched the cake topper, and a gold mirrored tray filled with yummy frosted cut out cookies that matched our theme.

On the top shelf of the rack, vintage pink glassware completed our sweet dessert display.

The baking rack was flanked by two vintage white wicker chairs with red and white gingham pillows, and a classic picnic basket with a checkered cloth.

To complete the styling of the Strawberry Fields Forever shoot was the magnificent cake and cookies.

Our cake was a delightful, airy, three tiered confection, perfect for a summer wedding.

Created by Eat Cake 216, the bottom layer was covered in white buttercream rosettes. The middle tier was frosted in the palest shade of mint green, and dusted with sugar crystals.

The top tier was simply covered in smooth white frosting.  Hand crafted strawberries were placed on each tier for a cascading effect.

We added pink carnations and small white daisies as well for a sweet complement to the strawberries. Our gold painted “love” cake topper was created in a font and style often seen in the 1970’s.

The cake looked amazing on the vintage baker’s rack, next to a refreshing container of fresh-squeezed lemonade, and gorgeous decorated cut-out cookies.

The cookies were created by Anchor and Bows bakery, and decorated with hearts, daisies, strawberries and peace signs.

Our wedding anniversary photo was shared on Matchology!!

In June of 2019, my husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary.  I set up a styled photo shoot for the two of us, as we almost never have formal portraits taken.  We had a blast!  Our photo shoot was originally featured on the Pretty Pear Bride blog.  Today, it has been posted on the Matchology page on Facebook.  Matchology is the submissions platform for Aisle Society, a website that features beautiful weddings, engagements, and styled photo shoots that have been published.  I hope you enjoy!

In this vintage sherbet wedding inspiration by Art Goans Photography, my thoughts immediately flew to weddings from yesteryear, particularly from the 1960s. The sartorial explosion was global and clearly, still stands strongly today.

Photographer’s Comments: “We love Stargate Atlantis and wanted to put together the dream wedding of Colonel John Sheppard and Teyla Emmagan, the main characters of the show.  Joe and Chula were amazing to work with and the chemistry between them, you’d have never known they had just met that day!”

In this vintage sherbet wedding inspiration by Art Goans Photography, my thoughts immediately flew to weddings from yesteryear, particularly from the 1960s. The mod movement heralded colors becoming brighter, prints were more bolder, and “slim” and “mini” became frequently-heard and seen. The sartorial explosion was global and clearly, still stands strongly today.

Kimberly Lehman from Love, Laughter, & Elegance: Wedding & Event Planning is a die-hard fan of shades of pink and peach (who isn’t, right?). When she came across her venue of choice–The Cross-Eyed Moose–she fell for the quirky country-western vibe and the overall deep brown, rustic interior would hold up well against the sharp contrast of the color palette she had her heart set on featuring. The guest table centerpiece was a very full arrangement in a large trumpet vase that had mandarin oranges and peach slices at the base, for added color. The centerpiece, boutonniere, and bouquet were comprised of coral and pink roses, pink peonies, lavender stock flowers, baby’s breath, ferns, and a variety of greenery for texture. We think Pretty Petals Design nailed a home run with these blooms.

Our most favorite element, however, was the vintage 1960s Mustang that showed up quite serendipitously. A married couple was visiting the venue for the day and this was the vehicle they were in. They graciously said yes when asked if it could be featured in the shoot, and the rest is history. Funny how things work out so well don’t they?
